The WOW factor!
Nobody remembers ordinary. Ordinary is stepped over and soon becomes anonymous.
According to Seth Godin “Remarkable” is a necessity in marketing today. In other words, noticeable products have a WOW factor.
Jesus WOWed People
But this isn’t new.
Jesus was doing this for years!!
When He came on the scene He got people talking! He didn’t just come preaching He also came with power–He went around healing the sick and raising the dead. Nobody else was doing that.
Now He had the choice of using the WOW factor or being “ok.” But look at the difference between the two:
Ok: ”What’s that? A new prophet? Kingdom of God? Sounds good. Sounds just like the other prophets we’ve had before.”
Wow Factor: “Holy Crap!!! He just cured that guy of leprosy!!!! Did you just see that??!! Wow!!”
Ok: “‘Love your enemies’…yeah that’s good stuff. I can see me doing that.”
Wow: “What??!! What do you mean He “raised someone from the dead”?? The dead? Are you kidding me??!! Wow!!”
Apple continues to WOW me
Have you been to the Apple Store?
When Steve Jobs decided to undertake this task, according to Fortune, he did it “with a nervous board.” His reasoning: he needed a way to speak to the masses, not just to the faithful few. He wanted Apple to change the world.
It was extremely risky. But it paid off in the end.
The Apple store is a prime example of Biblical Marketing: 1) They have great products and 2) They let people try them for free.
And though I’m not proud to admit it…because of the Apple Store I cheated on Dell. Don’t judge me!! You’ve probably done the same.
But seriously, if what you’re offering doesn’t have a WOW factor–take it back to the drawing board! It’s better to have a great product product with good marketing, than a good product with great marketing!
