What do I do when I AM blessed but don’t FEEL blessed?

Virgin Mary

I’m blessed. God’s Word says it, His Spirit confirms it, but sometimes I don’t feel like it.

My pocket doesn’t show it, my job doesn’t show it, most things around me don’t show it, and since they don’t show it I oftentimes don’t feel like it.

Sometimes I don’t feel blessed!

Remember Mary? Jesus’ mother. She was blessed–an angel told her so:

“Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among woman…Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His Name Jesus.” [1]

But isn’t funny she was favored and still had unfavorable circumstances:

  • She was the point of gossip.
  • Her boyfriend nearly divorced her.
  • She traveled through the desert in the blazing heat on the back of a camel.
  • She ended up at a barn where she gave birth.
  • She was forced to put her newborn baby in a manger–a trough for feeding cows.
  • She had to wrap the baby in swaddling cloth– milk rags for cows.

That doesn’t sound blessed to me. Does that sound like “highly favored” to you?

So what is the answer?

The answer is found in the concept of blessing: a blessing speaks to the end of thing.

We need to always keep that in mind.

Being blessed means that all minor afflictions are preparation for a greater end; blessings prepare us to become the person we need to be. So, in that respect, we’re all blessed.

Know this: everything in your life up to this point has been preparing you for a great end. Your path is “as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” [2]

He’s getting you ready…and deep down…you always knew that yourself. And one day you’ll be able to say to Him, “My troubles turned out all for the best— they forced me to learn from Your Textbook.” [3]

Be blessed!

  • I have mentioned a similar passage from the Bible on afflictions in my blog.

Sometimes through fatigue, incomplete understanding of God's plan, or just our own selfishness and insecurity, we can miss the "feeling" of being blessed. I'm thinking of Elijah, who after slaying 400 prophets of Baal retreated in fear and exhaustion to a cave where depression seemed to cover him. No doubt God was with Elijah, and his blessings were plentiful, but until he came to God with these feelings, and God ministered to him - provided food, rest, and shelter - it was hard for Elijah to see the good that God was doing through him.
Certainly Jeremiah (the weeping prophet) and even Solomon could appreciate feeling disconnected from God and his blessings. Could not feeling blessed equate to not feeling content or comfortable? Perhaps. We all experience "feeling blessed" in different ways. Talk with God in prayer about it! Make your request known to God and He will grant you His peace. The personal way He infuses you with His Holy Spirit in response to your sincere prayer about this issue may in fact strengthen your relationship with Christ in a way you never expected. It has worked for me!
    Blessings to you ...

I can relate to this. My life had gone from bad to worse....for years....even though i was doing everything the bible says to do. I thought that by doing all the right things and living a life as close to God as possible (obeying in little things) would give a breakthrough and change circumstances. Of course adversity started with physical trials....that affected finances, friendships etc. Any Christian ministry i was doing for God was provided for. But my life needs were not. I did not know why.
But..................God showed me to fight for my parents and sisters and niece....cos they were also going through the same things as time went. One day i read a Derek Prince book that mentioned (in a line or two) that strongholds run in families. He said that when people came for prayer he saw the same things in the other family members that did not come for prayer. Then i started fasting and praying for my family. I did Jericho marches and fasting re. many areas that were strongholds. And as i have been doing this unexpected results have happened. Family members coming to Christ. Many prayers answered. We have been finally seeing blessings start to come. Have a long way to go...but things are turning around.
  • Wow!!

You have no idea how your comment just blessed me. It actually humbled me to the point I've declared my own fast.

Yours is truly a testimony! I am glad to see things are turning around. Know that I'm praying for you

    Be blessed

    Thank you
Yes.....when people find out the full extent of my story and how God led me and finally seing change.....then they start fasting and doing Jericho marches.....and then their lives start changing (quite drastic things like broken marriage healed, drug addicted son of a Pastor making changes, someone being evicted no longer evicted cos the house was sold within days to another landlord......etc.). If we are willing to do whatever it takes then sudden breakthrough happens....at least that is what i have seen.
May Jesus give you amazing answers as you fast. I am excited for you. Blessings brother.
  • Blessings to you as well
