Things were so much easier in the past:
Limited Product Choice but Plentiful Supplies +
High Demand for Good and Services +
Clustered Consumers +
Broad Access to Very Few Media
= Little or No Consumer Resistance to Advertising
So since things were so simple customers were cogs in the business wheel (rather than the reason for which the wheel existed). Businessmen were able to delegate such “trivial” things as marketing to a…hey, how does this sound?…a…”marketing department.” They could put out a couple of ads, give a few brochures, yell the loudest and enough times, let the customers know what was being sold, and “let them” buy.
Good customer…that’s a good boy!
